The shrub has a dense, well-branched form. Leaves are bright green, oval, with a characteristic red margin and a glossy surface.

Mophead-type inflorescences reach 15–25 cm in diameter. Flower color varies from bright red to pink-red; violet or blue tones may appear with increased soil acidity.

The plant is a summer-blooming type, prefers partial shade, locations protected from wind, regular watering, and moist drained soil. Winter hardiness is down to -15...-18 °C; shelter is required in severe climatic conditions.
