The variety is of Japanese origin and was discovered on the Jogasaki coast of the Izu Peninsula. The plant is characterized by flat lacecap inflorescences with double star-shaped sterile flowers.
The color of the petals varies from soft pink to light mauve or blue depending on soil acidity, and toward autumn, the inflorescences acquire purple and reddish shades. The cold resistance of the plant is up to -18 °C.
In landscape design, the hydrangea is used as a solitary plant or for placement at the back of borders. The plant maintains its decorative appeal until the first frosts due to the change in the color of the inflorescences at the end of the season.
