Kasteln is characterized by dark pink flowers, the color of which can change to blue shades depending on soil acidity and aluminum content. The variety is known as an object of agrotechnical research on growth regulation using regulators and preparation for forcing via ethylene treatment for defoliation.

In professional floriculture, the variety demonstrates susceptibility to phytopathogens typical for the species, including viruses affecting hydrangeas. Currently, the main information about the variety is of an archival nature and is limited to data from professional studies of the last century.
