Königstein is a dense deciduous shrub reaching about 1.5 meters in height and width. The leaves are dark green with prominent venation.

The plant forms large globular inflorescences. The color of the flowers varies from dark red to purple or blue, which depends on the soil pH level and its aluminum content.

The variety is intended for cultivation in USDA hardiness zone 6. The shrub prefers locations with partial sunlight and is used in landscape design, and is also suitable for cut flowers.
