The shrub, 1.0–1.2 m in height (sometimes up to 1.5 m), features dense foliage consisting of dark green, broadly ovate leaves with serrated margins. Flowering lasts from July to September. The variety is considered a possible hybrid between H. macrophylla and H. serrata.

The plant belongs to hardiness zone 6b and requires winter covering to protect flower buds. It prefers partially shaded sites with fertile, slightly acidic, and constantly moist soil. The stems of the variety are notable for their strength and resistance to weather conditions.
