Lutin, also known as Lutin Bleu, is a compact deciduous shrub with ovate leaves with a serrated margin. The mature plant reaches a height and width in the range of 1.0–1.6 m. The variety's inflorescences have a characteristic flat, "plate-like" shape.

Flower color depends on soil acidity: on acidic soils they turn blue, and on neutral or alkaline soils they acquire pink or lilac shades. Flowering continues from June to September.

The plant is moisture-loving, prefers partial shade or shady areas with humus-rich soils and has cold hardiness down to -18 °C. The variety is suitable for use in landscape design in groups, borders, as a specimen plant, as well as for growing in containers.
