The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Perfecta' variety (synonym 'Blue Wave') is a dense shrub 100–150 cm in height with erect shoots. The plant's leaves have a bright green color, a shiny surface, and an ovate shape.

The inflorescences are flat, lacecap-type, 15 to 30 cm in diameter, consisting of small fertile flowers in the center and large sterile flowers at the edges. The color varies from pink and mauve-lilac to deep blue, which depends on the soil acidity level.

The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zone 6 and requires covering in regions with cold climates. The variety is considered resistant to lodging, however, under unfavorable conditions it can be affected by powdery mildew or spider mites.
