The shrub is upright or bushy, reaching a height of 0.9–1.5 m in open ground and 0.4–0.7 m in containers. Leaves are large, ovate, dark green with a serrated margin. Flat inflorescences up to 20 cm in diameter consist of small fertile flowers in the center and large sterile ones at the edges.
Flowering lasts from June to September. Flower color is bright red, though it may change depending on soil acidity and aluminum content. The variety requires winter cover, USDA hardiness zones 5–9, shoots are upright.
