The plant is a deciduous multi-stemmed shrub with a height of 1.5 to 2.5 meters, capable of reaching 3.6 meters. Large dark green 3–7-lobed leaves resemble oak leaves in shape, turning burgundy, purple, orange, or bronze shades in autumn.

Inflorescences are conical, reach 30 cm in length, and consist of double flowers with a “hose-in-hose” effect. The color of the inflorescences changes from white when opening to pink, and turns brown by autumn. Flowering occurs on the previous year's shoots from June to August.

The variety has a frost resistance of zone 5 down to -29°C. The plant prefers partial shade and well-drained soils; it does not tolerate waterlogged soils. It is used in landscape design for solitary and group plantings; decorativeness is maintained throughout the year due to flowers, foliage, and exfoliating bark.
