In the genus Hydrangea, the designation «Plena» is applied to forms with double flowers. Hydrangea involucrata «Plena» is a shrub with double sterile flowers, which is valued for its elegance and is capable of tolerating sun exposure provided there is sufficient soil moisture.
Hydrangea serrata «Plena» is described as a rare variety with double inflorescences of pink or blue shades. In gardening reference books, there is also confusion where the term «Plena» is incorrectly attributed to hydrangeas, although it may belong to representatives of other genera, for example, Deutzia scabra.
Since «Plena» is a descriptive characteristic of doubleness, and not a breeding name, there are no uniform agrotechnical descriptions or originator data for plants with such labeling.
