Variety description

The plant forms compact clumps of numerous stems. The foliage is glossy, changing shade from grayish-green in the spring to dark purple or almost black as it matures. The pinkish-red flowers are gathered in dense inflorescences.
Flowering occurs in late summer and autumn, from July or August to October. The plant reaches a height of 20–50 cm and prefers full sun and well-drained soils. The variety has high winter hardiness, is drought-tolerant, and is resistant to deer browsing.
