The variety is a representative of local Slovenian genotypes selected for the preservation of the crop's genetic diversity. The variety name originates from the ancient Roman name of the town of Ptuj.

The plant belongs to the category of partially homogamous varieties, in which the flowering time of male and female flowers partially coincides. The variety possesses good productivity and is used both as genetic material for breeding and for cultivation in orchards.
