The Coloso variety is a rootstock for watermelon grafting, intended for increasing crop productivity and its resistance to adverse factors. Using this rootstock imparts tolerance to low temperatures to plants and protects against Fusarium wilt.

Grafting onto this rootstock promotes early crop ripening and provides marketable yield indicators comparable to non-grafted plants. No influence on fruit quality or their taste characteristics is noted. The root system of the rootstock is characterized as moderately vigorous, but effective for ensuring scion growth.
