The variety is a diploid form of Italian ryegrass. Due to its stability, it served for a long time as a benchmark in breeding programs for crown rust resistance and yield, and was also widely used as a model plant in laboratory studies of plant nutrition and the rhizosphere.

Compared to later breeding forms, the variety showed lower disease resistance and lower productivity indicators. Currently, in a number of countries, the variety has been removed from official catalogs due to its replacement by more productive lines.
