The variety is a tetraploid form, which ensures larger seeds and high productivity compared to diploid varieties. The plant has a very rapid development rate and intensive early spring regrowth.

Jumper is used as a forage crop for establishing short-term sown meadows, hay and silage production, and as a cover crop. The variety does not persist in the sward for long, usually for 1–2 years, and is sensitive to extreme temperatures.
