The Aberclyde variety is a tetraploid perennial ryegrass of the intermediate maturity group, with a heading date falling on May 25–27. The variety is classified as a high-sugar grass type, possessing good seasonal growth rates and rapid regrowth after cutting or grazing.

The plant is characterized by high yield for both grazing and silage production, demonstrating excellent dry matter digestibility. It features an open canopy type and moderate ground cover, and is used primarily in grass mixtures for intensive dairy and beef cattle farming.
