Aberelan is a diploid perennial ryegrass variety traditionally used in breeding work as a standard for comparing the nutritional value of experimental lines. The variety possesses a level of water-soluble carbohydrates typical for the crop and a higher fiber content compared to modern high-sugar varieties.

The plant demonstrates good forage yield indicators and heading dates comparable to other common varieties under grazing conditions. The variety is most frequently mentioned in literature from the early 2000s as an object of physiological and forage trials, while detailed morphological characteristics are absent in the sources.
