Victorian is not a variety in the traditional breeding sense, but represents a local population of perennial ryegrass. In the Australian forage value assessment system, it officially serves as the base standard for conducting comparative trials.

This population possesses high survival ability and contains a standard endophyte. Economic use includes application as a forage crop for pastures, as well as inclusion in the composition of certain grass mixtures for landscaping. In terms of productivity, this ecotype is often inferior to modern breeding varieties.
