The variety Chap 1 (commercial name ROUGE DE LA MAJORIE) is a compact, dense shrub with a height of 1–2 meters and a diameter of up to 0.8 meters. The plant possesses elliptical evergreen foliage that changes color from red-purple during the active period to purple-brown in winter.

Flowers are of a purple-pink shade, consisting of four thread-like petals, and are gathered in capitate inflorescences at the ends of the shoots. Flowering occurs in early spring, in the period from April to May.

The plant prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations with moderately moist soil ranging from slightly acidic to neutral reaction. The variety exhibits relative drought tolerance, but requires good drainage and in temperate climates is recommended for cultivation in tubs or in regions with mild winters.
