The variety is a local cultivar originating from the Castelnuovo-Magna-Pinzano area. It is found under various synonyms, including Mela di Sant'Anna, Mel da Canale, and Mela di San Giovanni.

The fruits reach consumer maturity in the second ten-day period of October, with harvesting carried out at the beginning of the same month. The variety is triploid.

Due to the high acidity level of the flesh, the fruits are not recommended for fresh consumption, but are suitable for making sauces and desserts.
