Most often, the name Brautapfel is associated with the old variety Roter Herbstkalvill. The fruits have a characteristic shape with deep longitudinal ribs, reminiscent of a pepper, and smooth glossy skin of a purple-red color. The flesh is light, sometimes with reddish veins, juicy, with a distinct raspberry aroma and a sweet-sour taste.

The tree is vigorous, reaching a height of about 4.5 meters with a width of up to 3 meters. The crown is broad, flat-rounded, with a loose arrangement of branches. The variety is autumnal; harvest maturity occurs from the end of September. The fruits are versatile in use: suitable for fresh consumption, drying, and juice production.

The variety belongs to old traditional varieties and is not a product of modern breeding. Due to the fact that the name Brautapfel can be applied to various local varieties, it is considered a collective term, rather than a designation of a strictly established breeding line.
