The Burgmer 984 rootstock belongs to the group of dwarfing clonal rootstocks. In comparative trials, trees on this rootstock may exhibit a lower height compared to some other M.9 clones. Fruit-bearing efficiency, defined as the ratio of yield to trunk cross-sectional area, is assessed as moderate or relatively low.
Like other members of the M.9 group, this rootstock is susceptible to phytoplasmosis (apple proliferation/witches' broom), woolly apple aphid damage, and voles. With proper tree care, the rootstock does not have a significant effect on the size, firmness, and dry matter content of the fruits of the grafted variety.
