The local variety "Pom costa" is a medium-sized tree with an upright crown. The fruits are characterized by their large size, rectangular ribbed shape, and wine-red skin color. The fruit flesh is greenish-white, firm, and crisp.

The variety has a late ripening period and high keeping quality, maintaining its consumer properties until March. It is presumably a mutation of the "White Calville" apple. In a number of European sources, the name "Jonagold de Costa" is used as a trade designation for a clone of the "Jonagold" variety.
