The variety is of very ancient origin; the first documented description dates back to 1613. The name reflects a characteristic feature of the variety — a short fruit stalk. The tree has low vigor and belongs to the spur type; flowering occurs very late, which allows it to avoid spring frosts.

The fruits are of a heavily flattened shape with yellow-green skin with a red-orange blush and frequently occurring russeting. The flesh is cream-colored, firm, fine-grained, not very juicy, with an intense sweet taste and an anise aftertaste. The variety is self-incompatible and is characterized by high resistance to scab and powdery mildew.

The variety is intended for dessert use. The fruits are ready for harvest at the end of October, store well for 3–5 months, and can be used in cooking.
