The variety has a long history, its origin is associated with France, and by 1774 it was already widely distributed in England. Due to its long history, the variety has many synonyms, among which are Reinette de Caux, Kasseler Reinette and Doppelte Casseler Reinette.

The tree is distinguished by low vigor and forms a small globular crown. The variety is characterized by high yield, but has a susceptibility to canker, especially when grown on heavy and damp soils.

The fruits belong to the dual-purpose category and are suitable both for fresh consumption and for culinary processing, including baking.
