The Faros variety tree is distinguished by vigorous growth and strong wood development, which can complicate formative pruning. The variety is known under several historical names, including Gros Faros and Gros Fareau.

The fruits have a flattened shape and dark red skin color with pale yellowish flesh. They are suitable for culinary processing, cider making, and fresh consumption. In cold conditions, the apples retain their consumer quality for up to four months.
