The variety is a seedling from a cross between Passe Pomme Rouge and Heuapfel. The fruits ripen in the first half of August, are characterized by a rich composition of aromatic compounds in the juice, and are traditionally used for fresh consumption.

The tree possesses high resistance to scab (Venturia inaequalis) and apple canker (Neonectria ditissima), and also shows resistance to powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha), which affects about 25% of shoots.
