The variety Ildröd Pigeon, also known as Ildröd Taubenapfel or Eldrött duväpple, was discovered in Denmark on the island of Funen. It is a late-ripening variety whose fruits ripen in November and can be stored for several months.

The apple fruits have a characteristic bright red color. The variety is extremely heat-loving and does not tolerate severe winters well, which is why its cultivation in northern regions is limited.
