The variety belongs to the category of indigenous landrace crops grown primarily in the Troodos mountain region in Cyprus. In publications, it is mentioned as one of the two main traditional apple varieties on the island.

The fruits are classified as summer. Studies confirm that in terms of quality characteristics, including phenolic content and antioxidant activity, the variety is comparable to the widely known Gala variety.
