The apple variety Karneol was developed within the framework of the Hungarian breeding program aimed at expanding the assortment with resistant varieties. In scientific publications, the variety is classified as tolerant to major pathogens.

Studies confirm high frost resistance of the generative organs of the plant during the dormant period and during flowering, which allows it to be included in the group of frost-resistant varieties.
