The variety is a historical representative of Tuscan pomology. The fruits have a regular round-flattened shape and are small in size. The skin is smooth, canary-yellow in color with bright red spots, which is the reason for the name, indicating a resemblance to hawthorn fruits.

The fruit flesh is white, fine, juicy, and crisp, with a moderately sweet taste; the variety is intended for fresh consumption. Currently, the plant is classified as an heirloom variety and is preserved within biodiversity conservation programs in Italian regions.
