The fruits are usually small or medium in size, round or asymmetric in shape, with a dark red or red-purple skin, sometimes covered with a waxy bloom. The flesh is white or whitish-green, juicy and crunchy, possessing a sweet taste with a slight acidity.

The trees are medium-sized and are characterized by low maintenance and resilience. Varieties in this group are late-maturing, with harvesting occurring in October. The fruits are characterized by a high capacity for long-term storage and are traditionally consumed fresh.

These varieties are the result of centuries of local selection in various regions of Italy. Currently, they are primarily of value for the conservation of agrobiodiversity as heirloom fruit crops.
