The variety Príncipe Grande is a traditional Galician apple variety, samples of which are stored in the CIAM germplasm bank. The variety has undergone genetic characterization as part of the study of local crops.

In scientific literature, the variety is mentioned as an object of biotechnology research, specifically for testing methods of micropropagation and obtaining virus-free plants. Studies have shown that the variety has a survival rate of approximately 55% during in vitro culture establishment and successfully roots when treated with indole-3-butyric acid.
