Under the name Roqueta, Catalonia groups a number of local varieties, including the Roqueta Vermella variety. The fruits of these apple trees are characterized as small, green in color with red spots, belonging to the reinette group. The taste of the fruits can vary from slightly acidic to aromatic and sweet.

In the past, the variety had commercial importance in the Barcelona province but was supplanted by modern varieties. Currently, apple trees of this type are cultivated primarily for the purpose of preserving genetic diversity and use in breeding programs.
