SARGENTE is an ornamental species found on Hokkaido island in 1892. The plant is a small tree or densely branched shrub 1.5–4 meters tall with a wide, spreading, often umbrella-shaped crown.
The fruits are very small, about 1 cm in diameter, bright red or crimson in color. They are sour, not used for human consumption, serve as food for birds, and often remain on the branches until winter. The plant is used exclusively in landscape design and the landscaping of parks and gardens.
