10 August 2026
The variety is considered a chance seedling; the age of the specimen found was at least one hundred years at the time of discovery. Genetically, it is triploid. The traditional growing area is associated with the municipalities of Norcia and Montefranco; samples for conservation are located in the 3A-PTA park collection.
The fruits have a spheroid-globular shape and an average weight of about 110 grams. Flowering occurs in the second ten-day period of April, and harvesting is carried out in the first or second ten-day period of October. The apples have good keeping quality and are capable of being stored for several months.
The variety was traditionally grown in private orchards and is not used in large-scale industrial production. Due to its status as a rare ancient plant, specific agronomic data on disease resistance or growth characteristics are unavailable.
