The variety originates from the Aniene river valley in the province of Rome. It is officially registered in Italian registries as a local genetic resource of agricultural interest and is under the protection of regional biodiversity conservation programs.

The variety was traditionally used for winter consumption, allowing for a supply of fresh fruit to be maintained during the cold season. Surplus harvest was also used as livestock feed. Detailed morphological characteristics of the plant are not available in open publications.
