The variety belongs to late-maturing apple trees and was first mentioned in literature in 1820. The fruits can be used in cooking, consumed fresh, or used in cider production.
The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew, with cases of chronic shoot infection occurring. Studies have also been conducted to investigate the variety's susceptibility to the apple rubbery wood virus.
