The Wilton's Star variety is a mutant of the Red Jonaprince variety. The fruits are large, weighing 180–250 g, intensely colored in dark crimson or burgundy-purple, covering up to 95–100% of the surface. The flesh is firm, juicy, fine-grained, crisp, with a sweet taste with a slight acidity and pear aroma.

The plant is a triploid with sterile pollen, therefore it requires cross-pollination with other apple varieties. Mature trees on clonal rootstocks reach a height of 2.5–3.5 meters. The variety possesses high keeping quality, maintaining marketable qualities until spring.
