The variety MSU-MFL1, also known as Freedom, was selected for use as a high-efficiency energy crop. The plant possesses vigorous growth and demonstrates high biomass productivity, significantly exceeding the indicators of switchgrass.
Genetic studies have confirmed the identity of this variety to other Miscanthus x giganteus clones common in the USA and Europe, which indicates extremely low genetic diversity within the species.
