The variety was developed through selection from a wild population in the area of Arethousa village on the island of Ikaria. It is intended for the production of standardized, high-quality raw materials that can be used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as a component of phytogenic feed additives.
The plant possesses high production potential and stability of qualitative characteristics when grown under various climatic conditions. The essential oil of the variety is distinguished by a unique composition in which the content of the main component, carvacrol, reaches 85–95%.
