The Hunor variety belongs to the group of industrial poppy varieties used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of alkaloids, in particular thebaine, from poppy straw. The variety is also suitable for the production of seeds for food purposes.

The plant is included in the National List of Agricultural Plant Varieties of Hungary. The variety is used in breeding programs and genetic research, including work on the study of winter hardiness.
