The Kompolti M variety is a type of Papaver somniferum that has historically been used in European scientific research for comparative experiments on productivity and the study of alkaloid composition. In methodologies for poppy variety testing, it often serves as a reference sample.

The plant has dark-colored, almost black seeds. The variety is capable of producing a yield from both spring and autumn sowing, with autumn sowing increasing productivity, although the winter hardiness of the variety is unstable. Morphine accumulation rates in poppy straw are rated as good.

Mentions of studies on the resistance of this variety to root rot can be found in the literature, however, detailed characteristics regarding general resistance to diseases or lodging are absent. At present, the variety is primarily of a research nature.
