The variety was obtained by crossing runner bean with determinate growth habit common bean varieties, followed by repeated backcrossing with runner bean. A key feature of the variety is its bush habit, which distinguishes it from typical climbing forms of the species.

The plant has a hypogeal germination type, in which the cotyledons remain in the soil. The variety is characterized by potential resistance to a number of diseases, including common bacterial blight, Fusarium root rot, and white mold, inherited from the runner bean.
