The variety Westa is a dwarf form of Phaseolus coccineus. The plant has a compact habit, straight and rigid stems without tendrils, which eliminates the need for supports. The period from sowing to maturity is about 115 days; the variety is classified as mid-late.
The fruits are intended exclusively for the production of dry grain, as the pods are fibrous and not edible. The seeds are large, white, shiny, and cylindrical in shape; the thousand kernel weight is 1300–1400 g. During the ripening process, the green pods turn a straw-yellow color.
