The variety is a tall perennial loose-tufted grass with a height of 60 to 100 cm. It belongs to an intermediate type in terms of maturity, with heading occurring 7–10 days later than standard varieties. The plant is characterized by high leafiness, fine stems, and an excellent leaf-to-stem ratio.
Climax possesses high winter hardiness and is capable of withstanding low temperatures and icing conditions. It exhibits resistance to rust and tolerates wet, peat, and heavy soils well, however, it is poorly adapted to drought and extreme heat. It is most effective when used for haymaking, silage production, and as a component in grass mixtures.
