Variety description

The evergreen shrub has a dense rounded crown. Leathery, broadly oval, finely serrated leaves are distinguished by a pronounced gloss and a bright red color upon emergence, which eventually changes to dark green. The stems also have a bright red hue. Some mature leaves may have light green stripes along the central vein.
A mature plant reaches 2.5 meters in height and up to 2 meters in width. In May–June, corymbose inflorescences of cream-white color may appear on the bushes. The variety possesses winter hardiness down to -18 °C and resistance to diseases and pests.
The plant is used as a specimen, for creating hedges, or for container cultivation. To maintain ornamental quality, pruning is recommended after the young shoots change color to green. The shrub prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations protected from winter winds.
