UCB-1 is an interspecific hybrid used exclusively as a rootstock for grafting pistachio cultivars. It provides the scion with high growth vigor, disease resistance, and adaptability to various soil conditions.

The rootstock possesses excellent resistance to Verticillium wilt, Phytophthora, and nematodes, as well as high tolerance to saline soils and cold climatic conditions. It is characterized by growth vigor and uniformity, which promotes rapid development of young trees.

The plant can be grown from seeds obtained through controlled crossing or clonally via tissue culture. There is also an ornamental variety of the same hybrid known as Red Push.
