Captain variety is characterized by an erect habit with narrow leaves and high productivity in the cool season. The plant possesses good drought tolerance and a vigorous root system, which contributes to reducing nitrogen leaching from the soil. Plant height is up to 40–50 cm.
Produce of the variety is distinguished by high digestibility and content of energy, protein, and minerals. The crop is used for grazing dairy and beef cattle, as well as sheep, both in pure stands and as part of multi-component pasture mixtures, supplementing the feed base in the winter-spring period.
