The variety belongs to the group of so-called Unal clones and is a hybrid of Populus x canadensis. In a historical context, it was actively used for forestry purposes and plantation cultivation in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In scientific literature, the clone often serves as a model organism for conducting experiments on genetic transformation, including work with Agrobacterium to increase disease resistance. Research is also being conducted on its interaction with pathogens causing poplar rust to study mechanisms of immune response.
